Key Players Of CSK a Glance

Chennai: The 4 key players of Chennai Super Kings and their roles - A GLANCE

Suresh Raina: There may be doubts over his place in the Test side, but Suresh Raina has proved himself in the shorter formats of the game. While his susceptibility in the face of quality swing bowling and the short ball remains, he has been become a regular member of the Indian limited-overs teams. An attacking left-hander who can find the gaps as well as play the big shots with equal ease, Raina is a vital cog in the Chennai side. He is the leading run-getter for CSK, having been with them since the start. He has also shown the character to rescue his side from difficult situations, while his sharp fielding in the circle only adds value to his place in the team. - "THE DASHER"
Subramaniam Badrinath: One of the many local stars in the Chennai squad, S Badrinath has been scoring plenty of runs for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy since the mid-2000s. His stay with the national team hasn't been as successful though, the right-handed middle-order batsman having played just seven ODIs for India since making his debut in August 2008 and just one T20I - against West Indies in June this year. However, hidden among the stars, Badrinath played a crucial role in Chennai's IPL-4 campaign, averaging 56.57 in 16 matches at a strike rate of 126.51. More importantly, his sound technique and calm temperament allowed Dhoni to use him flexibly, either to rebuild if the top order failed or to score some quick runs at the end. He is also one of the best fielders in the Chennai side. "Mr. DEPENDABLE"
Albie Morkel: Albie Morkel is another player who has not managed to hold a regular place in the national side despite performing so well with both bat and ball with his IPL side. The left-handed batsman was not part of South Africa's World Cup squad but showed the Proteas just what they might have missed with his all-round performances for CSK. Bagging 15 wickets in 15 games made him one of Chennai's prime bowlers, while he was also handy with the bat, scoring at a strike rate of 135.29. - "Agressive Albie"

R Ashwin: R Ashwin has used his performances in past seasons of the IPL to earn a place in the national side and will be looking to impress India skipper Dhoni once again, having done well in the otherwise disappointing ODI series in England. The tall off-spinner has performed consistently for Tamil Nadu at the domestic level, first making it to the Indian side in early 2010 as a replacement for Harbhajan Singh. He has also been a key component of the Super Kings' recent success. He was the man-of-the-series in the CLT20 when Chennai won last year. He picked up 20 wickets while conceding only 6.15 runs an over in IPL-4. Mostly called upon to open the bowling, Ashwin's ability to pick up early breakthroughs - he dismissed the dangerous Chris Gayle in the IPL-4 final against Royal Challengers Bangalore - will be important in his side's quest for success. "Carom Ball Specialist"

HOPE THEY DO WELL IN CLT20 2011
